Through the act of giving free haircuts for people experiencing homelessness and poverty, Short Back & Sidewalks is creating positive connections with vulnerable and marginalised community members to build a stronger and more inclusive community.
Since Short Back & Sidewalks started in Perth, Western Australia in 2015, we have given over 10,000 free haircuts and have had over 20,000 positive connections across Australia.
We currently have 34 regular free haircutting services operating across Australia in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide and throughout regional Western Australia. This includes Albany, Bunbury, Broome, Carnarvon, Derby, Geraldton, Karratha-Roebourne, Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Port Hedland and Kununurra (commencing in June 2025).
Short Back & Sidewalks is a not-for-profit organisation giving haircuts free of charge and free of judgement. Donations help us keep creating positive connections with and visibility for some of our most vulnerable and marginalised community members.
Short Back & Sidewalks relies on its generous volunteer base to deliver services. We believe that everyone has something to contribute, and that you get back as much as you put in — and more — when you volunteer with us.
